Referral Chapter

Welcome to Adult Guidance Referral. This section explores issues relating to referral at national and local level. When people talk about referral, they often think that it is all about form filling and completing applications but there is much more to it than that.

A great deal of preparatory work needs to go into laying the initial groundwork with the client and with other agencies before a referral is made.

Making or accepting referrals, requires collaboration and co-operation between the various stakeholders. Building relationships and partnerships is therefore very important, so we need to actively network both within our various managing agencies, such as the ETBs and WIT. We need to market and promote the Service, so that people are clear about who we are and what we do. We need to carefully choose the most appropriate agencies we refer our clients to. In this way, the referral has the best chance of being successful for the client. So the form filling is really just the end product of this process.
