Strategic plans need to be structured, with well defined actions, clear lines of responsibility and specific timeframes.
Strategic plans give us a focus and a direction and help to keep things on course. Planning also gives us specific goals and targets to work towards. Having a planning process gives us responsibility for the direction of our service and helps ensure the proper allocation of resources.
Circumstances may change within the lifespan of a plan. It is important to regularly review our original plan to ascertain its relevance. Amendments can then be made if necessary. For example, if there is an unexpected change in staffing levels, priorities may need to be amended.
